"They run as fast as they can. A gasp at the cost of effort. Other fall and no longer stand. Some, more resistant, sing a song to give encouragement. She says, do not let your head like one that has been vanquished. She says, wake up, come on, the struggle is long, the fight is difficult. Then they shout with all their strength to show their enthusiasm. "(Monique Wittig, The Guerrillas).

LA GRECIA QUE HAY EN MÍ
Poemario de Berbel de Canarias
NO me bastaron
1.013 naves, 43 caudillos y 30 reinos

Without Direction
Foto: María Del Río
By Teresa Iturriaga Osa, a translation
No, it’s not easy
to follow the protocol of the soul,
...yet since the birth of mankind and his laws,
already the soul’s words were written on the air.
Drunk with love, the water of the sea
was shaken by gestures and words…
yet how were you going to understand the mystery
of those verses if you hadn’t yet been born?
Find in your stone water-jar the last drop
of my holy wine,
the dewy bride from the lands of all those old stories,
this life is the same —
O life,
that escapes me
in the space where I exist now,
with tears for you.
Translated by the American Poet Spencer Reece
(in Madrid, october 2012)

si aún no habías nacido?
vida,
que se me escapa
por el hueco del ser
en lágrimas por ti.
